Interviews

-->
Hi everyone! We have been working in a project consisting of three interviews to people who have been studying or living abroad. Our characters are: Niamh Wilson (Ireland), Ainhoa Iturbe (Basque Country) and Bobby Turner (England).

We are sorry, we tried to record a video but we have some problems with the sound so finally, we wrote it. We have two written interviews and one taped. We hope you'd like our work!

The first interview:

-->
Today, we have got an Irish girl with us, she's called Niamh. For some time, she is living in the Basque Country, so we are going to interwiev her to know more about her experience, so:

  1. Why did you go abroad? What did you like in the emigration country?
I went abroad because there weren't any jobs left in Ireland and I wanted a better life for my child. We are living in small flat in San Sebastian, this place is so beautiful... That's what I like the most, the place. But I like people from here also, they are very kind to me.

  • Zergatik joan zinen atzerrira? Zer gustatu zitzaizun atzerriko herrialde horretatik?
Atzerrira joan behar izan nuen, Irlandan lanik ez zegoelako eta bizitza hobea nahi nuen nire haurrarentzat. Orain pisu txiki batean bizi gara Donostian, leku hau horren polita da... Horixe da leku honetatik gehien gustatu zitzaidana, lekua bera. Hala ere bertako jendea ere oso abegikorra izan da beti nirekin.

  1. Did you have any problem with the language? Did you feel comfotable there?
Well I found it relatively easy to fit in, because people in the basque country are very good at english. They are also very patient when I don't understand what they're saying because I can't speak any spanish or basque yet but I'm trying hard in order to speak them soon.

  • Arazorik izan al zenuen bertako hizkuntzarekin? Eroso sentitu al zinen?
Nahiko erraza egin zitzaidan egia esateko, euskaldunek oso ongi hitz egiten baitute ingelesez. Gainera zerbait ulertzen ez dudanean, lasaitasunez esplikatzen didate berriz, izan ere oraindik ezin dut euskaraz eta gaztelaniaz hitz egin, baina horretan nabil, ea laster hizkuntza hauetan mintzatzeko gai naizen.

  1. How was the experience abroad? Did you feel alone? Why?
My experience was very good for improving my lifestyle, I didn't really feel too alone because I had my child and everyone here was very friendly.

  • Zer moduzko esperientzia izan zen atzerrikoa? Bakarrik sentitu al zinen? Zergatik?
Nire esperientzia oso positiboa izan zen nire bizi estiloa hobetzeko. Ez nintzen bakarrik sentitu egia esateko ,nire haurra nirekin baitago eta gainera bertako jendea oso lagunkoia da.

  1. Do you expect to return to your country? Would you recommed the experience?
I think I'll only be returning for holidays to my family. I definitely would recommend it, it helped me with so much.

  • Zure herrira itzultzea espero duzu? Esperientzia hau gomendatuko al zenuke?
Nire herrira oporretara soilik joango naizela uste dut familia bisitatzera. Gomendatuko nuke dudarik gabe, asko lagundu dit.

  • ¿Esperas volver a tu país?

The second interview:

-->
Today, we have got an English boy with us, he's name is Bobby. He has been living here for a year, so we are going to interview him to know more about his experience, so:

  1. Why did you go abroad? What did you like in the emigration country?
I went abroad because I wanted to change my life. I needed new challenges, new experiences. I like people from San Sebastian, they were very kind to me. I also loved the beaches and the parties of the city.

  • Zergatik joan zinen atzerrira? Zer gustatu zitzaizun atzerriko herrialde horretatik?
Nire bizitzan aldaketa bat behar nuelako joan nintzen, erronka berriak. Donostiarrak nirekin oso atseginak izan ziren eta beraien hondartzak eta festak maite nituen.

  1. Did you have any problem with the language? Did you feel comfotable there?
Not really, people in the Basque Country are really good at English, so it was easier for me. They were also very patient when I didn’t know who to say something. I continue studying Spanish and Basque in London.

  • Arazorik izan al zenuen bertako hizkuntzarekin? Eroso sentitu al zinen?
Ez, euskaldunak oso onak dira ingelesez hitz egiten, hortaz, errazagoa izan zen niretzat. Pazientzia asko zuten nirekin, batez ere zerbait esaten ez nekienean. Londres gaztelera eta euskera ikasten jarraitzen dut.

  1. How was the experience abroad? Did you feel alone? Why?
My experience was awesome. I improved my knowledge, I didn't feel alone in any moment. I found really good friends

  • Zer moduzko esperientzia izan zen atzerrikoa? Bakarrik sentitu al zinen? Zergatik?
Nire esperientzia oso ona izan zen. Nire jakinduria hobetzeko. Ez nintzen bakarrik sentitu, lagun onak aurkitu nituen.

  1. Do you expect to return to the Basque Country? Would you recommed the experience?
Yes of course, I will go this summer again. I totally recommend this experience. It’s amazing!

  • Itzultzea espero duzu? Esperientzia hau gomendatuko al zenuke?
Bai noski, udan itzuliko naiz. Esperientzia hau gomendatzen dut. Izugarria da.

  • ¿Esperas volver? ¿ Recomendarías esta experiencia?
Si, quiero volver este mismo verano. Recomiendo esta experiencia, es increíble.

Fair trade

Last week we did an interview with an indian involved in Tara project. It is related to Emaus whose aim is fair trade. They explain us how it works and its benefits. We prepare a questionary to know more about the project.

Here you have some of the questions we did:
1-How was the beggining of the project?
The beggining was amazing; there where different projects and then, the economic activity started.
2-How did you get in contact with Emaus?
The contact started there, by the President of Emaus in San Sebastian.
4-Apart from economical support, do the beneficiaries of your programme receive any other kind of help?
Yes;for example, there are many education programms and health centers
12-Does the work you develop make changing their lives?
Yes, of course. But we can't compare to our lives.

We found the activity interesting and enjoyable and it was exciting to have a video conection with an indian woman. She answered all our questions and she was very kind.

We hope that in the future we could do something similar, and that Tara project continues improving and developing, so they could help more people.
